Turn your coloring pages into more than just artwork with simple crafts that bring amazing Jesus stories to life.
These projects are great for parents, Sunday school teachers, or anyone looking to mix their children's church lessons with a little creativity.
1. Bookmark of Belief
Create a page marker to use when reading about the story of Jesus calming the storm, Mark 4:35-41 NIV.
Print your free printable coloring page at 25% scale and fill with your favorite colors.
On the back, write important passages or powerful quotes from disciples like Matthew or Luke. Laminate each piece for durability.
Punch a hole at the top to thread a ribbon through.
Use the bookmark during a Sunday school lesson or gift it as a blessing for someone starting a new chapter in their life.
2. Light up the Word of God
Craft a paper lantern that casts a calming glow to remind us that Jesus is the light in the darkness.
Color your printable Jesus scene, focusing on vibrant shades that will enhance the light's effect.
Roll the finished design into a tube shape and secure it with tape.
Place a battery-operated candle on a window sill or tabletop and set the lantern on top to illuminate the colored scene.
3. Calming Collaborative Canvas
Foster a sense of community and shared faith by creating an interactive wall mural in your classroom or church hall.
Start with a large blank canvas or wall space and outline a basic seascape.
Invite children to add their colored pages to the mural. Add figures of Jesus and the disciples within the scene.
Add texture using tissue paper for big waves, fabric for the sky, and foil for the lightning.
As the mural grows, it offers a deep dive into the story of Jesus calming the storm, symbolizing how a belief in God can bring us together.
4. Faith-Filled Fleet
Launch into faithful fun with a sailboat racing game that combines creativity with lessons on navigating life's stormy seas.
Start by coloring two printable Jesus pages, focusing on strong shades and intricate patterns to make your sails stand out.
Take one of your designs and fold it into a boat shape. Follow this tutorial for step-by-step origami boat instructions.
If you plan to use your boat on water, it’ll need a protective coating. You can cover the boat in Mod Podge or spray it with acrylic sealant to waterproof it.
To create the sails, cut your second colored sheet into two triangular sail shapes. On the back, write bible verses about the miracles Jesus performed, such as healing the blind man and raising Lazarus from the dead.
Glue the sails onto a craft stick, before gluing the stick itself to the inside of the boat.
Fill a large tub with water and race your boat against a friend’s, using the activity to discuss how faith can guide us through the big waves and storms in life.
5. Maritime Miracle
Turn simple coloring sheets into a dynamic 3D pop-up scene that brings the stormy tale and miracle of Jesus to life.
Color an illustration from our free resources that features Jesus calming the ocean's waves. Cut the figure out and leave a tab at the bottom so that it can stand upright.
Decorate a shoebox to create a backdrop for your cutouts. Add blue cellophane for water, cotton for clouds, and tissue paper to mimic the rough waves.
Place the Jesus cutout into your beautifully decorated shoebox. You could even make one of our paper boats to place him in! (See the previous craft idea.)This diorama serves as a visual aid for fun Sunday school lessons or as a memorable end-of-class project.
