Coloring in these printable Goldendoodle illustrations is the perfect chance to learn some fascinating facts about these fluffy fur babies!
Here are eleven things you may not know about doodles.
1. Hybrid Origins:
You probably already know this, but goldendoodles are a mix of Golden Retrievers and Poodles. This breed blends the Retriever's friendliness with the Poodle's intelligence and low-shedding coat.
2. Size Matters:
Goldendoodles vary in size due to their Poodle bloodline. Standard Goldendoodles are over 21 inches at the shoulder and weigh 50-90 pounds. Minis are 17-20 inches, weighing 25-35 pounds. Toy Goldenpoos stand up to 16 inches tall and weigh even less. Of course, there are lots of dogs that fall in between these sizes, and they’re all lovable no matter their scale!
3. Coat Variety:
Goldendoodle coats can be wavy, curly like a Poodle's, or straight like a Golden Retriever's. This shows off the diverse genetics of coat types within the Goldendoodles.
4. Colorful Canines:
These pups come in many colors: cream, red, black, and even chocolate dogs. If Goldendoodles have the merle gene, they can have even more unique patterns and white markings. This is thanks to the complicated genetics inherited from their pup parents.
5. Allergy-Friendly:
Goldendoodles are considered hypoallergenic thanks to their Poodle-like curly coat. This means that they shed less fur and skin cells which can make them a better option for allergy sufferers.
6. Brainy Breeds:
Goldendoodles are highly intelligent and trainable. This makes them excellent choices for therapy and service work.
7. Social Butterflies:
Known for their extreme friendliness, these cute canines thrive in social settings. Goldendoodles can be great friends for kids and other pets.
8. Active Lifestyle:
Goldendoodles are energetic and love activities like walking, running, and swimming. They inherit their love of water from their Golden Retriever side and athleticism from their Poodle genes.
9. Oodles of Doodles:
The doodle craze started with a man named Wally Conron in Australia, who first bred the Labradoodle. Since then, doodles have become super popular, mixing poodles with other breeds to create fun new types. Now, we have Goldendoodles, Cavapoos, Aussiedoodles, and more, each with their own special look and personality.
10. Tail Types:
Some Goldendoodles have a curly Poodle-like tail, while others have the straighter tail of a Golden Retriever. This is purely a difference in appearance and reflects the breed's mixed genes from its parents.
11. Genetic Wonders:
Breeders test Goldendoodles for "furnishing genes" that influence coat texture. This makes sure that the dogs are allergy-friendly, healthy, and have the signature appearance of the breed.
